Computer vision models fail on the rare event — the pallet at an odd angle, the defect that appears once in fifty thousand parts. Collecting enough real examples of those events is slow, expensive and sometimes impossible.
Tessellate generates them. The company builds photorealistic synthetic scenes with exact ground-truth labels, letting teams train on ten thousand variations of a failure mode they have only ever seen twice.
The technology started in industrial inspection and has since moved into logistics, agriculture and autonomous ground vehicles.
Why we invested
Synthetic data has been promised for a decade and mostly disappointed, because the images looked right to humans and wrong to models. Lena's research group had solved the domain-gap problem for a narrow industrial case, and we believed that narrow wedge was the honest way into a very large market.
